At MAN Diesel & Turbo, hundreds of engineers are working on the technologies of tomorrow. Their primary goal is the ongoing improvement of the efficiency and environmental compatibility of our products. Every day, they seek out new ways of minimising emissions further with technical innovations while at the same time reducing fuel consumption. The development of large MAN B&W two-stroke engines takes place at our site in Copenhagen (Denmark) while the research and development department for four-stroke engines and turbochargers is based in Augsburg (Germany).
As the world’s leading provider of large-bore diesel engines, our highly qualified and motivated workforce and our expertise give us the ideal foundations for ensuring we number among the industry’s technology leaders in the future, too. At MAN Diesel & Turbo, innovation is a tradition. Since the development of the first diesel engine by Rudolf Diesel and MAN engineers at our premises in Augsburg, the company has continued to set technological milestone after technological milestone. And this still continues today: in 2008, for instance, MAN Diesel & Turbo won the Innovation Prize from German Business for its low-emissions 32/40PGI gas engine that uses no spark plugs.
MAN invests above-average sums in R&D. In 2008 alone, the money invested by MAN Diesel & Turbo amounted to Euro 252 million, equivalent to 6.7 per cent of the company’s turnover. This makes MAN one of Europe’s high-tech companies. We contribute this wealth of expertise to numerous national and international research projects.
